Medicare Rebates and GP Referrals 
 

Do I need a referral and MHCP? 

• No, you don't need a MHCP to book in sessions. However, if you are wanting to obtain the Medicare rebate a referral and MCHP is essential.

Does it matter if my referral is to another psychologist? 

• No, you are able to access services from any psychologist of your choosing. In order for us to claim the rebate on your behalf, we will need a copy of the referral and MHCP. 
   

I can't get in with my local GP? How do I get a referral. 

• One perk of COVID is we now have access to telehealth GPs who can complete a MHCP for you. Online companies such as: Instascripts, QDoctor, HolaHealth, AussieScripts all advertise MHCP services. However, you may need to fill out a form and request a MHCP prior to your appointment. Details are on their websites.

Can I get a rebate and make a claim from my private health to cover sessions? 

• No, you may only claim from either Medicare or a Private Health fund for each session.  Private Heath will not contribute towards the ‘gap’ between the Medicare rebate and the consultation fees.  Your receipt will have a code specific to either Medicare or Private Health depending on your requirements.

Do you bulk bill? 

• Unfortunately, we do not bulk bill at this time. 

​

What happens when my MHCP is used up? 

• MHCP reset each calendar year on January 1st. Speak with you GP about when you will be eligible for another set of 10. If you have used all 10 sessions with us, we may be able to offer a discount until you are eligible for a new MHCP.

Report Writing
 

Do you produce reports for court? 

No, we do not. We want to give our clients the best, and unfortunately this is out of our scope of work. We advise that you find a psychologist with experience in this area to conduct any reports relating to parental capacity, assessments of risk, mental state and cognitive abilities etc.

Are reports free? 
All reports requested by the client will be charged according to the time taken to compile the report. Inclusions in report writing fees are generally but not limited to: cost of screening/assessment tools used, meetings and note taking, therapist research and writing time.

Can you complete paperwork and/or letter in support of Centrelink payments? 
We can depending on the nature of the paperwork. However completion of these forms and associated letters can take time and may need to be paid for. Please check over the paperwork to ensure that it is not specified that it can be completed by a GP only.

Assessments
 

What assessments do you offer? 

At this time, we are able to complete assessments for neurodiversity and cognitive assessments for intellectual impairment. However, we will speak with you in relation to whether full assessments with us are necessary or if supporting reports (symptoms screener summaries and clinical observations) for pediatricians or psychiatrists may be more suitable. 

At times this can be quicker and cheaper for the client, than full diagnostic assessments.

NDIS
 

Can you help with NDIS funding? 

We are experienced with NDIS processes and can help with justifying increases to current NDIS plans, securing psychology funding and helping you secure NDIS funding for you or a child in you care. Call us for more information relating to NDIS pathways and requirements.

Due to the time taken to prepare applications and reports for NDIS, charges may apply depending on your circumstances.
